Osteomyelitis Confirmed!

The day after arriving at Yorkhill, MacGonigal had an MRI scan done on her ankle. Later, her doctor came back and confirmed that she had osteomyelitis and that they felt antibiotics were the best way to tackle it. MacGonigal, Mum and Dad were very relieved to hear both that the cause of MacGonigal's problem had been identified and that an operation would not be necessary.

MacGonigal settled into the difficult routine of watching tv, reading, and being visited by relatives and friends who insisted on showering her with gifts. She had never seen so many chocolates, books, cards, flowers, juice, and stuff. It was a real bummer that she didn't have much of an appetite. Though then again, it was perhaps just as well, otherwise she would have been going straight onto a long term diet once her ankle got better.

Her fairy-godauntie bought her lots of clothes - she bought a pile of stuff for Mum and MacGonigal's little sister too. All in all, she didn't have too bad a time at Yorkhill - except for the needles. MacGonigal did not like them one little bit!

Her Dad and little sister waited at home, hoping that Mum and MacGonigal would be back soon. However, the weekend came and went but there was no word of when they would be back. But MacGonigal was now getting better very quickly. She wasn't in so much pain and was now able to move about a bit. Though not too much (because I think she secretly liked having everyone else do stuff for her).

And then came the news everyone wanted to hear. Mum and MacGonigal would be flying back home on Thursday (the 9th of March). MacGonigal would be going back into the local hospital for a few more days of intravenous antibiotic delivery but at least Dad and little sister could visit her there. At last, things were on the up and up...
